Archipelago Folkschool
Description

Archipelago Folkschool connects people with craft. We are a Community Interest Company and a collaborative social enterprise. We aim to be as inclusive, open and encouraging as possible. We run short residential craft courses in beautiful places, events that teach skills but also encourage participation in communities and connection with the environment.

Our approach is interdisciplinary as much as possible - our lives are not lived as neat sections so our making shouldn't be either. We work at the boundary between expression and engineering; art and science; the human built and the naturally occurring. We are inspired by folkschools around Scandinavia and America as well as the pioneering work of the GalGael Trust in Glasgow.

We believe that craft should be democratic and open to everyone - this underlies everything that we do. The fee for all of our courses includes a contribution towards the Archipelago Bursary - a means tested resource to allow everybody to come along.

Our courses include half-model making, letter carving boat and kayak building, including women's and family boatbuilding, blacksmithing and oar-making. You can find more details of the courses at: https://www.archipelagofolkschool.org/booking/

Courses are held in various locations in Glasgow and to the west as far as Iona visit our website for more details. Or message us for a prospectus.
