One of the top events of the Dragon Boats’ calendar

The annual Hong Kong Dragon Boat Carnival is jointly organised by the Hong Kong Tourism Board and Hong Kong China Dragon Boat Association, the much anticipated event will see some 3,500 athletes from 100 local teams take part, as well as international teams from 15 countries and regions including the UK.

The Dragon Boat Carnival will be held at Victoria Harbour and along Central Harbourfront and in true Hong Kong style, an ancient Chinese festival has become one of the world’s greatest parties! The event will feature four exciting elements:

Hong Kong is recognised as the birthplace of modern competitive dragon boat racing, having held the first international race in Shaukeiwan in 1976, with nine fishermen dragon boat crews competing against a visiting crew from Nagasaki, Japan. This humble event went on to spark an explosion of worldwide interest in dragon boat racing, transforming this ancient Chinese ritual into a modern international sport, which has become an important event on the sporting calendar.
