MUSTO AND THE BRITISH SAILING TEAM SHAPE THE FUTURE FOR YOUNG SAILORS

Press release from Musto: 5th March 2018 – At this year’s RYA Dinghy Show, Musto announced the winners of its Junior Riders Programme championing its partnerships with the British Sailing Team and British Youth Sailing (BYS). This saw three lucky young sailors from the UK win a once in a lifetime opportunity of a mentoring programme with a member from the British Sailing Team, along with a Musto voucher, worth £500.

Three young sailors from around the UK won the incredible experience of being mentored by the best sailors the country has to offer, as they look to take the next step up in their sailing careers. Furthermore, all three winners were gifted a £500 Musto voucher so that they can kit themselves out with all the latest gear.

One winner, Ed Baker, 14, from Frampton on Severn Sailing Club, said, “When I heard that I would be meeting a member of the British Sailing Team I was blown away. This is a wonderful opportunity for me and I very much look forward to the experience. I am very lucky!”

Musto set a high criteria for the would-be winners based on BYS core values, asking for each BYS Squad Coach to recommend their potential winner, before representatives from both Musto and the Royal Yachting Association (RYA) would select their final three. To be considered, the young sailors needed to be passionately ambitious, act on their curiosity, show clear courage and determination, take ownership of themselves and display a high level of respect and integrity; both on shore and in the water.

All three winners joined newly appointed Racing Director at the RYA, Volvo Ocean Race Winner and long-serving Musto ambassador, Ian Walker MBE on stage at the Dinghy Show for the announcement. He commented: “This is an excellent opportunity for young sailors to be recognised for their hard work, and to benefit from the mentorship of the sailors they aspire to be.”

Winner, David Bromilow, 12, from West Kirby Sailing Club, said: “I was so excited to find out I was a Musto Junior Rider winner. I am really looking forward to my mentoring experience with a member of the British Sailing Team! I am still thinking what cool Musto gear to get with my £500 Musto voucher to add to my sailing kit!”

Catrin Williams, 14, from Felinheil and Port Dinorwic Sailing Club, commented on her win, I am completely speechless about being nominated never mind being in the final three and I’m extremely grateful for everyone that’s help me reach where I am today.”
