The world famous Wooden Boat Centre at Franklin are seeking a new Operations Manager, and reached out to us to help find one. We have had a long standing relationship with the Wooden Boat Centre and consider them one of our best partners so it only made sense to help get the word out there about the exciting new position.

In addition to posting job advertisements from Hays Consulting Hobart, we asked Festival Friend Kelvin Aldred to write a few words about his experience with both the Wooden Boat Centre and the AWBF.

“That unique subtle aromatic smell of Tasmania’s Huon Pine comes alive as you hand plane the world’s best boat building timber; and it stays with you forever.

Every time I visit the Wooden Boat Centre in Franklin, or climb the long winding stair case to the Wooden Boat Festival office, that Huon Pine smell pores over in my mind. So many happy memories of being a two year full time student at the Wooden Boat Centre and School.

I soon also became involved with the team at the Australian Wooden Boat Festival as Food & Beverage Manager, and now some 17 years later, I still have great delight to volunteer and for over a decade, sailed my beautiful 33 foot Huon Pine motor sailor, “The Huon Kelly” , constructed at the Centre, to the Boat Festival.

I serve on the Committee of the Boat Centre and have marvelled at the progress and growth of the Training and Visitor Centre the past two years. An extensive building expansion program is about to commence to accommodate the ever growing student numbers and courses provided, plus growing numbers of visitors.

Once you enter this wooden boat community, it is very difficult to leave..

The Boat Centre advertised over the weekend the exciting role of Operations Manager.

Do you feel like joining the boat building experts, students and volunteers in the stunning Huon Valley of Tasmania, managing operations at the Wooden Boat Centre? I highly recommend if you tick the boxes that you apply, as this position closes on 11th July.”
