A new rowing and sculling event has been added to Falmouth’s classic boat regatta schedule

The Tilley Endurables Falmouth Classics returns for its 30th anniversary in a few weeks, with a new event designed to encourage even more people to get involved with the regatta. Saturday 17th June will see the first Rowing and Sculling Competition take place in the waters between the Greenbank Hotel pier and the Royal Cornwall Yacht Club.

Open to everyone aged 12 and up, there will be five different events, kicking off at 10am. Prizes will be awarded to the winners of each class, with participants being divided up by type and size of boat, and age of participant.

As one of the largest classic boat events in the UK, organisers anticipate over 150 classic vessels will arrive in Falmouth over the 16th- 18th June weekend, coinciding with the popular International Sea Shanty Festival. A spectacular Parade of Sail and Power on Sunday 18th follows two busy days of racing in the Carrick Roads.

Visitors will be able to watch the action on the water from several key vantage points around Falmouth. Also new this year is the Maritime Village on Custom House Quay, where there will be displays of traditional maritime techniques and stalls.

Those wishing to take part in the Rowing and Sculling Competition can find all the details and the entry form at: http://www.falmouthclassics.org.uk/forms-downloads/.

Be sure to get your application forms in by 5pm on Friday 16th June to secure your place, along with the entry fee of £2.50 per person, per race.

With the addition of this new competition, alongside the full on-the-water and shoreside program over the weekend, the Classics event this year looks set to be the best yet!
