Press release from Garmin   May 2018:    Garmin has announced two new additions with built-in GPS to its marine communication product line-up – the AISTM 800 transceiver with Class B/SO, and a VHF marine radio with Class D Digital Selective Calling (DSC): Model 315i . Both systems compliment the latest Garmin GPSMAP chartplotters and multi-function displays (MFDs), and are NMEA 2000 certified to make installation and integration into a Garmin system quick and easy.

The new AIS 800 transceiver has 5 watts of transmitting power with Class B/SO and provides faster position reporting than ever before (at 14knots plus). It receives AIS target data while transmitting a vessel’s information to other AIS receivers in the area. The unit includes built-in GPS (with connector for optional external antenna) and integrates seamlessly into the Garmin onboard system. It has a cost-saving internal VHF antenna splitter that allows VHF and AIS to share a single antenna. It features NMEA 2000 connectivity for easy integration with compatible chartplotters and multifunction displays. And it’s all packed into an easy-to-install black box unit with a small footprint.

The 25-watt VHF 315i marine radio with Class D DSC is a reliable modular communication solution. It’s easy to use, and with NMEA 2000 connectivity, it integrates seamlessly into the Garmin onboard system. The VHF 315i features optional GPS (external GPS antenna required), and also includes the GHSTM 11i handset and new active speaker to use as an intercom between up to three stations. It’s equipped with NMEA 2000 connectivity for easy integration with compatible chartplotters, multifunction displays and convenient software updates. Simplified handset connectors and an uncomplicated, easy-to-use interface allow users to quickly set up and communicate.
