The Answers
Step 1: Create yourself a 2 year or 3 year travel plan.
Don’t give up on a trip just because you can’t do it in the next 6-12 months. Give yourself enough time to negotiate a bigger than average holiday slot. Look further ahead and pin down a likely month and year. (e.g. Summer Arctic Voyage 2021 – aiming for Greenland or Spitsbergen).
If the dates are not published yet, contact us with your big dreams and we will contact you by email as soon as we get a hint that new voyage dates are about to be released.
Step 2: Go solo because you won’t be alone.
Often the biggest barrier to travel under sail is the fact that your partner or friends may not share your passion. Dare we suggest you kindly explain your needs to them and get them to want you to grow as a person, perhaps they too have a big dream you can help them achieve.
You won’t be alone as you will meet other individuals on the ship that share your enthusiasm for the sea and big adventures.
Step 3 – Start negotiating the free time to create your holiday slot
If you want to cross an ocean on a sailing ship, or fully explore a far flung destination like the Antarctic, Svalbard and Greenland, then you are probably looking at more than a 3 week package so you are going to have to earn some serious brownie points to get the chance to go.
This might involve allowing your partner to follow their dreams first whilst you look after dog, business or granny, so they can do the same for you.
Then there is the other boss; Creating a career change just to go on holiday is never a bright idea. Better to negotiate unpaid leave and ‘clear the decks’ responsibly at work so colleagues and bosses will still love you when you come back.
Step 4: Expression of Interest lists – no commitment required
