Painting onto wood

Fife cutters Tuiga, Moonbeam III & Moonbeam IV

If you want something very unique and boaty then check out these maritime miniatures from Brittany-based artist Dominic Pérotin. Inspired mainly by classics – both workboats and yachts, she creates works that remind slightly of icons, though there is no gold-leaf involved. Instead she uses a rabbit-skin glue paint, with pigments, with the yachts painted in acrylics.

They are then waxed. Needless to say the photos here  do not do them justice – they are full of light, and charm. They are also accurate and Dominic’s knowledge of sailing helps her recreate boats that look like they are in their element. Smaller paintings are about 20 by 14 cm while larger works can be commissioned or bought from her website.

She can often be found exhibiting at regattas and events and she will take commissions. Prices from £240.
