In the January issue of Classic Sailor David Parker continues to restore his Mirror dinghy. Having done the preparation he is now onto retaping seams – putting strength back into the boat and fairing with a thickened mix of epoxy.

Mirror dinghies have been around since 1962 and more than 70,000 have been built. Many are in tired but still usable condition and can be bought for a couple of hundred pounds or less – especially if they are in need of this kind of help.

The Mirror is a true all round dinghy, it can be launched by two children, sailed, rowed or powered by outboard; raced or cruised.

We can’t wait to see what this little boat will look like once she is back afloat!

This is one of four articles Classic Sailor on restoring a mirror – using remedial boat building techniques (not just a paint job) to bring her back to sailing condition. These are currrently available as paid for pdfs. Contact CS for more details.
