Helly Hansen’s HP Racing Midlayer Jacket with LIFALOFT™ Delivers Sailors Warmth without the Weight

Staying warm and dry during sailing regattas can mean the difference between winning and losing. Clothing that provides comfort and protection without impeding the task at hand is imperative. Helly Hansen introduces the new HP Racing Midlayer Jacket that is so mobile and comfortable you’ll likely forget you’re wearing it.

The all-purpose marine-designed HP Racing Midlayer delivers the ideal amount of warmth with new, proprietary LIFALOFT™ insulation that is thinner and can be lighter and warmer than typical alternatives. The exterior is constructed with waterproof, windproof and breathable Helly Tech® fabrics that, combined with the insulation, provide full-stretch performance. The highly technical and versatile design makes the jacket a desirable for teams and is a go-to everyday solution for those looking for authentic marine style.

Moreover, the HP Racing Midlayer Jacket has been internationally recognised for its design and innovation, receiving two of the highest honours in product design: a 2018 GOOD DESIGN™ Award from The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and The European Centre for Architecture and Urban Studies, and the German Design Award 2019. Built for mobility and comfort, the HP Racing Midlayer Jacket was recognized for Excellent Product Design in the category of Sports, Outdoor Activities, and Leisure by the German Design Council.

This year, the award welcomed 5,400 entries. After a two-day jury meeting, the German Design Council selected the HP Racing Midlayer Jacket for its “agile, sturdy and ecologically-friendly design” with the jury stating that “The HP Racing Midlayer Jacket ostensibly leverages state-of-the-art materials to present a highly functional option with character for the marine environment. Finished with DWR, the jacket is more sustainable than those using fluorocarbon proofing” and therefore judged a winner for the 2019 award.

“The design team and I are honoured to be accepting these two incredibly prestigious awards,” said Øyvind Vedvik, Category Managing Director for Sailing at Helly Hansen. “This is a true testament to our commitment to make professional grade gear to help people stay and feel alive. The insights and feedback we receive from the professionals we outfit push us to create the best possible kit for those who choose to spend their time in the world’s harshest environments. We could not be more pleased.”
