Can you run a charter barge without an engine? In his comprehensive feature on the restored historic barge Cambria in the current issue, Robert Simper, poses the question as to whether it is practical to run such a vessel under sail alone. With quite a lot of interest, but not much help or ongoing funding there is a danger the famous old workhorse of the Thames could find herself  back where she was before the lottery money was spent.

We would welcome readers points of view on this subject which asks whether the practicalities of running a charter barge should outweigh the argument to keep her historically exactly as she was – sans engine.
