Susie Goodall’s rescue ship – the Hong Kong registered Tian Fu, is in the Magellan Strait heading for Punta Arenas in a few hours where she will be met by her mother.
The MV Tian Fu is shown on the Find Ship site cruising at 15 knots on its way to pick up a pilot prior to navigating through the Magellan Strait. Susie had to abandon her yacht last Friday after she was pitchpoled (see our earlier story HERE) 2000 miles west of Cape Horn.

The 29 year old Golden Globe Race contender scuttled her Rustler 36 which sank shortly after she was winched to safety from one of the Tian Fu’s deck cranes.

She had been in fourth position and her retiring brings the remaining competitiors’ number to five, from 17 who set out in July.

British yachtswoman Susie Goodall, was the sole female entrant in the 2018 Golden Globe Race.

There will be more news over the weekend.

One to miss Susie’s  rivalry is Istvan Kopar who had been 780 miles behind when her yacht DHL Starlight was pitch poled and dismasted 7 days ago. But Kopar has his hands full. Not only is he facing a similar storm, but is struggling with major steering issues on his Tradewind 35 Puffin and also running very short of water. Nor does he have a working radio to pick up weather reports so is reliant on Race HQ to advise him about approaching storms as a safety measure. For now, he sits 4th overall – an amazing achievement considering. And perhaps this storm will have a silver lining and bring him rain!
